in consequence of the missive, Is Marianne being led astray?, penned by Barbara
Marianne seems to illustrate that saying. She only sees the good of Willoughby.
This is the second time I have read S&S. The first time, I think I fell for Willoughby's charms. I thought his romance with Marianne was sweet and perfect. I rooted for them to get together. Willoughby seemed to be the perfect match for Marianne - he was everything she wanted. Now, as I reread it, I see what a negative influence Willoughby is on Marianne. I was particularly struck by how she willingly joined in his criticism of Col. Brandon. Her infatuation over Willoughby has made her blind to the feelings of others. |
