Friendly with your neighbors   Written by LouAnn (9/24/2012 9:39 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, No persuading him, penned by Paisley
Are you new?

I think the situation with Sir John and Mrs. Jennings shows us two things (at least!)

Colonel Brandon is a polite, long-suffering person. He indulges his old friends when he can tolerate doing so, but when he has to stand up to them, he does so without causing offense. JA is showing him to be 'manly' in the same way as Mr. Knightley.

The second thing we see is that in JA's world, you were 'stuck' with your neighbors to a certain degree, so you might as well adjust yourself to their behavior.
