I hardly think that Mr Henry D would leave it to his wife. It did happen as with Mrs Ferrars, but generally, teh wife would be provided for out of the estate but the estate would descend to the children. So problaby had Henry D inherited, he would have left John out, since he had a fortune of his own, and left teh estate in trust for Elinor's eldest son.. and (if he had had time) he woudl have saved money to provide better dowries for the younger girls. Mrs D would have had a widow's portion... but if the estate was to go to Elinor as eldest daughter or her future offspring, teh Dashwoods woudl be able to stay in Norland
