Third-person omniscient narrator   Written by LouAnn (9/21/2012 8:53 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, It's not the narrator's opinion, penned by Barbara
Are you new?

I've always read this passage, and similar ones, as the voice of the omniscient narrator. The narrator does point one some things the Dashwoods are feeling, such as calling Lady Middleton's behavior 'repulsive' but I don't think this voice is always intended to be a reflection of what the characters are thinking and feeling. The narrator is certainly sympathetic to the Dashwoods!
