A fourth mouth to feed puts them all in more of a predicament than if there were just two. Margaret got 1000 pounds from their uncle as well, which added 50 pounds a year to their income, but 3 women living on 450 pounds a year (which, BTW is about what Jane Austen, her mother and sister lived on at one point) are better off than four women living on 500 pounds a year (150 pounds per person vs. 125 pounds per person).

And, as you say, Margaret will have to live at home and be cared for for some years at least.
