Are you new?

The fact that Mr John Dashwood's could break such a promise is perhaps the only evidence we need to inform us about his true character. If his fathers dying wish did not sway him that it's very hard to see what would. He does not appear to be racked with guilt at any point so are we to assume he had no real love for his father as well as his sisters and step-mother?


Of course if he had kept his promise then we would have a very different novel.
