re: King Lear   Written by Jasmine D (9/16/2012 2:20 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, King Lear, penned by Barbara
Are you new?

You make a great comparison to Goneril and Regan in King Lear. It is interesting to compare this scene to the play's opening scene. At the opening Goneril and Regan proclaim that their love for their father has no bound and it cannot be measured. Now they are parceling it down to not even one retinue.

Similarly, John initially professes to be kind and generous. But then he reduces his generosity to a barely meaningful sum.
