Moral lessons   Written by Barb JA (10/23/2009 9:37 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, What is it all about?, penned by Rachel G
Are you new?

Aside from the sisters' stories, I also find many take away moral lessons in this novel.

John Dashwood professed to want to help his sisters but never followed through. It's something that is a reminder to me that you can't pat yourself on the back for wanting to help someone if you never follow through.

I think you've touched on the fact that this novel is about so many things. Perhaps what we find in it each time we read depends on what we bring to it. Austen's portrayals of human nature are so good that in addition to maybe finding other people we know, hopefully when we recognize a bad trait in ourselves we try to correct it.

Oh and the satire. The humor is what always keeps me coming back to Jane's novels. Sense and Sensibility is one that I turn to most often.
