Zeroes and threes and so on   Written by Tom P2 (10/23/2009 5:31 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Wow!!! That's hard work!!!, penned by Reeba
Are you new?

I didn't mention the scoring system before, because it was a slightly obscure detail and the post was getting alarmingly long.

Edward's 0 came from He was not handsome (ch3). For most statements like that, about the absence of a quality, I didn't go so far as to interpret it as presence of the opposite quality, by slapping a negative score onto it.

2 was the usual score for an unadorned label, 3 was for when there was a 'very', and 1 was for when there was a 'slightly'.

There's a list of synonyms and opposites behind the scenes, too. For example, the word 'attaching' is applied to Mrs Dashwood in the text, but I lumped it in with 'warmth', and Fanny's -2 for generosity started out as a +2 for selfishness.
