I have certainly never heard of that usage before. As far as I knew, they are simply two separate names. I guess it's like using "Ned" or "Ted" as a nickname for Edward. "Ted" is certainly also a nickname for Theodore, but "Ned" is, to the best of my knowledge, not a nickname for any other name but Edward...even so, they do not seem related, nor do "Nancy" and "Anne," to my mind. Go figure! Thanks again.
