But surely hte point about Wickham and Elizabeth is that while it hurt her vanity a little when he took up wth Mary King, Eliz was not deeply hurt by Wickham? SHe had common sense and a strong character, and while she enjoyed her flirtation with WIckham, she didn't let it get too intense or make herself unhappy over it.. as Marianne did with Willoughby....
