Willoughby had thought of marrying Marianne till his intentions suffered because of Mrs Smith sending him away. I think all along he had always intended marrying Miss Grey.


Somehow the impression one gets from all the conversation overheard and heard in London seems to show that their relationship (whatever it was) was of a longer duration even while he was carrying on with Marianne and perhaps Eliza.

So I don't believe him. He's just speaking for impression like all the other hollow statements he made.
