Frankly...   Written by Karen G. (10/8/2009 8:35 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Chapter 40: the marriage misunderstanding, penned by LouAnn
Are you new?

Col. Brandon has spoken so often to Elinor, and so little to Marianne herself, thus far, I could see why Mrs. Jennings, John Dashwood, and even Edward... might suspect Col. Brandon having a preference for Elinor! Like Mr. Darcy with Elizabeth (initially), Col. Brandon admires Marianne from afar, without really developing much of a relationship, and it is Elinor that has more of an opportunity to value him.

Mrs. Jennings is apt to tease any single person about anyone who might be a match. Although it is rather interesting she should have such a short memory to think Col. Brandon would have exchanged interest in one sister for another. But again, I could well see why someone not acquainted with Col. Brandon, would suspect his preference for Elinor!
