Even though I don't agree, I do ...

in consequence of the missive, Predators, penned by Bridget D
In all this discussion the one point not brought in is that there is now a child, a living breathing entity, which is dependent on a father to give it respectability. Willoughby has destroyed not one but two lives.
If he wasn't to be wholly blamed earlier he can be judged now and blamed completely for it, because his response and behaviour *now* reflects his thoughts/position/attitude *then*. From his position of absolute safety he knew he wouldn't take on the burden of any responsibilty.
Eliza was influenced by her love and his promises.
Under these circumstances I am not going to go after Eliza. It is Willoughby that I'm after with a great desire to punish him somehow, and feel helpless that I can't. *saying this while thirsting for his blood*
A predator is one who hunts stealthily for its prey (with his head). In this case the prey is *for his pleasure* under the complete knowledge of his own superior position.
