Delaford   Written by Rachel G (10/6/2009 3:36 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, He stays over at Barton Park, penned by Barbara
Are you new?

Thank you for posting the Forde Abbey link. It looks quite delightful, and I can see that it has many of the features which Delaford is said to have.

I had not imagined Delaford to be half as magnificent though. In Ch.14 Mrs Jennings says:

"The estate at Delaford was never reckoned more than two thousand a year,"

I realise there is no direct correlation between the grandeur of a house and the income of an estate, but two thousand a year puts Delaford in the same league as Mr Bennett's estate at Longbourne.

Oh well, it's nice to dream. Whether as grand as Forde Abbey or not, everything we hear about Delaford makes it sound idyllic and well worth dreaming about. ;-)
