You have hit the nail on the head.   Written by nan duval (10/5/2009 8:06 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Criminal, penned by Barb JA
Are you new?

Willoughby's intentions not being as fundamentally malicious as say Don Juan's or Henry Crawford's, his being merely out for his own enjoyment no matter whom he may harm, may make him less villainous than the aforementioned scoundrels, but does not make him less a predator. The victims we know of are young--much younger than he, and impressionable. I agree that a 16 or 17 year old doesn't have the ability to truly consent--now or then--and so he was guilty of statutory rape of Eliza & planning it of Marianne.

A charming cad will always have his defenders, but Willoughby's opportunism is vile.
