Hideaway huswife!   Written by Ivonne (10/4/2009 10:02 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, What a pair indeed!, penned by Robbin
Are you new?

Don't forget the huswifes that Fanny gave Lucy and Anne a few days before the explosive revelation of Lucy's engagement to Edward. I understand from Barbara's helpful explanation and reference to Deirdre LeFaye's Jane Austen: The World of Her Novels during the last group read (linked below) that a huswife is a folded fabric case for keeping needles.

I relish my picture of Anne "[taking] care to keep [hers] out of sight,"--perhaps diving for it amidst the furor, tucking it frantically into the folds of her dress or a sewing basket for fear that Fanny will tackle her and extract the precious commodity from her fingers! :D Just too much...
