WIlloughby and Marianne   Written by Bridget D (10/4/2009 8:59 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, It ended abruptly. Who knows what his expectations were!! nfm, penned by Reeba
Are you new?

I dont believe that Willoughby was so stupid as to think that Marianne was "seducible"... She was not an Eliza... she was high minded and during their talks he must have been aware that she considered that they were proceeding towards an engagement....AFAICS the main pleasure he got out of their relationship was the "ego stroking" that M gave him, but still he must have been aware that since she was not entirely unchaperoned or without friends paying court to her was sooner or later going to invovle him in a situation where he might be expected to marry her...So since he was already involved in a courtship with Sophia, he had to get out of it....
