Too much of a coincidence?   Written by Barbara (10/1/2009 3:09 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Nuts! And I read Ch 31 so carefully, I thought...., penned by Jeffrey
Are you new?

The fact that Willoughby should have met up with Eliza, of all people, could seem too coincidental.

However, Colonel Brandon tells Elinor that Marianne looks like his lost love Eliza. It wouldn't be a stretch to imagine that the daughter resembles the mother and could therefore have similar features--eye and hair colour, etc.. Perhaps there is a certain 'type' that Willoughby finds very attractive, and so the fact that he found both Eliza and Marianne attractive is somewhat less of a coincidence.
