Bath   Written by CarolTS (10/1/2009 1:26 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Willoughby and Eliza: More questions than answers..., penned by Jeffrey
Are you new?

She and her girlfriend were in Bath - and basically had the run of the city according to Colonel Brandon when he was talking to Elinor. I don't think Willoughby ever gave a thought to who she was and who her guardian was. I don't personally think he ever knew. She was there, she was available, he took advantage of her (she thought he loved her and she loved him), he left her. I'm sure he never gave it a second thought until the challenge arrived (or whatever means Brandon used to communicate with him that he knew it was him) after Brandon was able to squeeze the name out of Eliza.

We know that natural daughters exist (Harriet Smith in Emma) and can be sent to schools by their fathers. Perhaps they were basically ignored by wives ?? I'm not sure what wives thought about them.
