What about John?   Written by Ivonne (9/30/2009 4:21 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Willoughby lucky to be alive ?, penned by Jeffrey
Are you new?

Obviously, the John Dashwood we know is not going to go off and call Willoughby out for his mistreatment of Marianne. Even if it occurred to him, Fanny would quickly take that idea out of the running. But would a brother acting in line with the conventions of the day do something about Willoughby's betrayal of Marianne, despite there being no formal engagement? If so, are we talking about another duel, or something less? In other words, how precisely did John Dashwood let down his stepsisters this time by doing nothing at all?
