To paraphrase Lord Peter Wimsey   Written by Katharine W (9/29/2009 3:24 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Yes, lucky to be alive, penned by Barb JA
Are you new?

A bullet can go anywhere, but three feet of Damascene steel is bound to go somewhere.

I agree, the chances of both parties escaping unhurt from a sword fight is highly unlikely. Perhaps Willoughby grovelled, displaying a yellow streak and Col. Brandon spared him as being "not worth a bullet"? [Thanks for that Hornblower reference.

To my mind, Colonel Brandon called Willoughby out to avenge his own honor and that of Eliza. What happened during the duel is soo wide open to conjecture that I cannot see only one probable scenario. I like the idea of a cowardly Willoughby. However, only Jane Austen knows for sure.

And yes, "deloping" is a word.
