Good points. I believe dueling with swords was a bit more common over on the continent. Again, Miss Austen leaves us to imagining over what kind of duel it was but we can all agree that there was definitely a duel of some sort? (I don't believe gentleman stooped to fist-fights) References by Sir John that Willoughby was one of the "fastest riders in all England" show Willoughby has youth and athleticism on his side, whereas Col Brandon probably has experience and savvy on his. I'll stick to my original premise that Col Brandon still probably could have finished Willoughby off but probably displayed his mercy and gentlemanly class instead.
