Edward was pre-engaged   Written by Leah Noel (9/28/2009 9:31 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, More on this topic in Chapter 28, penned by kathleen (elder)
Are you new?

There is a major difference between the two situations that immediately jump out to me. When Elinor and Edward met he was already engaged- and was in all respects very careful not to lead her on in terms of future marriage. Willoughby was not engaged when he and Marianne met. He courted her forcefully and led everyone to believe them engaged- shortly thereafter he proposed to someone else.

Edward certainly made mistakes, however he did not slight her in the way Willoughby did Marianne
