Are you new?

Not that I find them sympathetic or endearing as individuals, but I get the sense that they have almost no resources beyond their ability to flatter and charm wealthier people... Lucy's engagement to Edward is a long shot (many obstacles remain to it's fulfillment), but it's still her best/only expectation for a home and independent life. I don't blame her for hanging on to him for dear life.
