I think Elinor in this instance demonstrates the denial that strong attachment can promote. If she had been able to be detached and view Edward's behavior from the start with a knowledge of his situation, I think she would have found it reprehensible; but she found out about his engagement only after "he had made her sincerely attached to him," her objectivity & even her judgment were compromised. Her sensibility overrode her sense.
