Repertoire of romantic literature?   Written by Barbara (9/25/2009 7:02 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, I still think, penned by CarolTS
Are you new?

Marianne believes her reactions to everything to be the result of her extremely profound feelings. However, we have already seen that many of her reactions are very predictable or 'scripted'--exactly what a proponent of 'sensibility' would be expected to do and say in such a situation.

We know Willoughby is sociable and probably flirtatious (dances all night at Barton Park). How hard would it be for him to have a working knowledge of a selection of romantic novels and poetry that young, romantic ladies full of sensibility are likely to know and love? He may well like or enjoy some of this himself, but even if he doesn't, being conversant on the literature could only be to his advantage!
