it was only a few that he didn't know or didn't have as high an opinion about as she did, not most/all.

Chapter 10: The same books, the same passages were idolized by each -- or, if any difference appeared, any objection arose, it lasted no longer than till the force of her arguments and the brightness of her eyes could be displayed.

He's not stupid and obviously it's more polite (and politic) to agree with someone who has such strong feelings about things - especially if you're interested in the girl! Besides, they do think a lot alike, so after listening to her reasonings, he might actually come to her point of view anyway.
