*Are* they complementing each other...   Written by Barbara (9/25/2009 5:07 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Perhaps that's why..., penned by Reeba
Are you new?

...or are they just making each other miserable?

Is Charlotte being the least bit effective in her 'job' of being Mr. Palmer's wife? She embarrasses him and annoys him. She's too silly to talk to about politics or current events. When he's reading the newspaper, could he have a discussion with her about anything he read in there?

Lady Middleton at least asks him about the newspaper--even if it doesn't do much good. She'd put on very elegant gatherings that would be socially correct and acceptable in every way if he was trying to become an M.P.

Lady Middleton issues constant reprimands to her husband, but is she actually being effective in getting him to socialize less than he wants to?
