...and I have always laughed at it. But when you combine it with the other manipulative ways of getting her way without overtly sounding like she's being anything but uncivil, it becomes less humourous, IMO.

I wonder, for example, after the constant reprimands, whether Sir John would dare to invite people who were unknown to her to stay at the Park again soon--or ever?
