She was immediately described physically. I'll have to leaf back through to see if there are other examples and it would be interesting to see if this is something JA does in other novels as well. The most recent I've read was Persuasion where Anne is described as having lost her bloom and later on as she regains it JA goes into a bit more detail. The physical description of Anne was essential to the plot though.
