Reveals something about Colonel Brandon   Written by Barbara (9/23/2009 12:46 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, why the Palmers?, penned by Heather Leigh
Are you new?

One thing Charlotte does is let us learn something very important about Colonel Brandon. He had an opportunity to marry someone who is both pretty and wealthy, and who is closely connected to people he enjoys spending time with--so marrying her would not have taken him away from his friends etc.

For whatever reason--and I don't believe it's because Mrs. Jennings thought he wasn't a good enough match for Charlotte--he chose not to.

I think this is important to know about him because we know he is not looking to marry just anyone. He wants something more than just beauty and money--unlike some of the other men in the story (or their families)!
