in consequence of the missive, Another side of Elinor?, penned by Barbara
I have to say I've always seen this passage like Barbara. To me it indicates that however well Elinor can present herself (and we know from her talk with Lucy Steele that she can conceal her real emotions very well), she's still only 19. She's been in constant contact with romanticism all her life and surrounded by it for most of it! She's imbued a little of it. I don't think that's so contrary for a young girl to do. Most young girls, no matter what they say to the contrary, still have a romantic ideal stuck in their head somewhere. Here we get to see hers!
