my favorite Edward moment   Written by Heather Leigh (9/22/2009 2:42 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Edward not the dud we think him to be..., penned by Jeffrey
Are you new?

this is such a sweet moment. He's not just teasing Marianne with a "quiet archness" that will please her, but also showing that he remembers their conversation about what constitutes "enough money" and a proper establishment (in Chapter 17). He is quiet and may appear self-absorbed, but with people he cares about, he pays attention and mulls over bits of information.

I think it's interesting that he's so playful and attentive with Marianne even when stiff and awkward with Elinor. In retrospect, I imagine that he can't address himself to Elinor directly, but can endear himself to her INdirectly through his affectionate manners to her sister.
