My problem with Edward promising wear the ring   Written by kathleen (elder) (9/21/2009 8:12 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Elinor's hair, penned by Bridget D
Are you new?

is IF he promised to wear it always, how would he explain to his sister or mother (or brother or brother-in-law) whose hair it was? If Marianne noticed it, then one of his other relatives could easily notice it as well. I think Lucy is too smart (too calculating!) not to realize that Edward wearing the ring would be a problem within his immediate family.

I still think it's possible that Edward was wearing the ring while visiting the Dashwoods as a sort of protection from getting more involved with Elinor, OR as a self-punishment for his youthful foolishness re Lucy.
