Maybe Edward is trying to keep himself "safe" Written by kathleen (elder) (9/20/2009 9:11 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, the ring, penned by Bridget D

or "protect" himself from being attached to Elinor? Wearing the ring is a reminder that he is already taken, that he cannot be free in his attentions to Elinor.

Or perhaps he wears the ring as self-punishment for his foolishness at getting engaged to such a woman as Lucy. :-)
