But John is 'very fond' of her   Written by Barbara (9/19/2009 5:51 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, John Dashwood married very young...., penned by Reeba
Are you new?

I've never seen John Dashwood as having been ensnared by

Fanny, and I can't think of any evidence for that in the story.

We are told he is "very fond of his wife" and that he cares about her and their son as much as he cares about himself. He doesn't seem unhappy with her in the least.

I've always wondered if perhaps there was something about her that reminded him of his own mother, whom he lost when he was younger than 7 years old. His mother was from a wealthy family too--maybe her attitudes were like Fanny and Mrs. Ferrars.
