Are you new?

Maybe since she's a few years younger, Charlotte had more of her mother's time and attention as a girl? She could also just be more like her naturally.

Since we know that Mrs. Jennings can be 'vulgar' it could also be that Lady Middleton deliberately set out to be as different from her mother as possible, to 'move up' to another set of friends and possible marriage partners.
