Some more inresting thoughts.   Written by Reeba (9/19/2009 8:52 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Which would mean, penned by CarolTS
Are you new?

We know that Marianne does have some sense, like Elinor.

I think prior to her father's death this side did show itself more often than not.

Marianne's sensibility has been shaken up into action because of;
-father's death
-moving to Devonshire and leaving Norland
-people pairing her off with Brandon
-coming of Willoughby
-going of Willoughby

I presume none of the above ever happened before, and most of Marianne's sensibility was roused by reading books, imagining what her man would be like, etc

I think in those circumstances Elinor would have been able to have intelligent conversation with Marianne - if not all the time then for some time at least.
Same goes for her mother.

What was left behind in Norland were situations of the kind that brought out Marianne's side of sense, unlike in Devonshire where almost every thing seems to aggravate her sensibility.
