in consequence of the missive, Edward arrives at Barton Cottage -- is something wrong?, penned by kathleen (elder)
It's interesting to think about Edward just popping in like that. Mrs Dashwood, as head of the household, makes a point of saying to Edward and Willoughby on more than one occasion that they are welcome anytime, and it's kind of an impression that comes about very quickly, IMHO.
Is she being correct in giving such open invitations to men who she sees as the suitors of her daughters? If her husband were still alive, I wonder what the protocol would be, and if the men would have to be more formal??? Is she being too forthright in her invitations? Or are they being disrespectful?
