I think it is a mixture of Edward and her father   Written by Martina C (9/16/2009 10:09 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Chapter 11: Whose conversation is Elinor missing?, penned by kathleen (elder)
Are you new?

I think Elinor is longing for the conversation that she enjoyed at Norland with Edward and probably with her father also before he died. As has been mentioned in this group read before, Elinor could have had a similiar personality to her father as her mother and two sisters seem so alike and yet are unlike Elinor in their outlook. I like to think that she enjoyed many intelligent, sensible conversations with her father and that Edward maybe reminded her of him and that is why she felt drawn to him.

In this passage I think she is missing Edward and we are getting an insight into her mind as she can not openly tell her family that she misses him. She seems slightly lovesick as she is not enjoying herself as much in the amusements around her and the conversation at Barton Park is certainly different from any she would have known at Norland.
