in consequence of the missive, Margaret's "elegant" description?, penned by kathleen (elder)
" Marianne's preserver: perhaps an echo of Jane West, A Gossip's Story, in which a heroine called Marianne is rescued by a handsome young man when the horse she is riding takes fright at a carriage. The young man, Clermont, is referred to as her "preserver."
This could be taken as evidence that Margaret has been reading the same romantic literature as her sister Marianne.
And if so, it is evidence that Margaret is an intelligent girl, because that's a pretty good literary allusion for a 13 year old!
