20/20 hindsight   Written by Karen G. (9/15/2009 11:55 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Allenham, penned by Rachel G
Are you new?

Many of the things that have been examined about Willoughby I would say on a first read through, I wouldn't have noticed until knowing something DID go wrong. In this case, I guess I see that Allenham would have been a concern. I suppose even the fact that Elinor is aroused to astonishment that no engagement has been disclosed by Marianne to her family may not have really alerted a reader until after Willoughby has left. One gets a first impression only once, and I can't remember when I read S&S for the first time let alone remember my feelings about Willoughby and Marianne. He may still come around! We'll wait and see. :)
