about Willoughby. But I don't think he said anything positive, either, about Willoughby's character. And even though he is the nearest male relative that the Dashwood ladies have, it is still Mrs Dashwood's duty to take care of her daughters' reputations, etc.

I'm not saying that there's a lot to worry about, only that there is some uncertainty re Willoughby's background and/or character.
