in consequence of the missive, Does Sir John know about Willoughby's family, penned by kathleen (elder)
I'm not sure this would be considered a sign of anything amiss in Willoughby's character, but on the morning they are to go to Whitwell, they meet at Barton Park for breakfast at 10 a.m.. Sir John comments that Willoughby has gotten up two hours before his usual time to join them. That, plus the remark that on a certain day he got up at 8 a.m. (as you quoted) shows that Sir John has noticed at least this about Willoughby's personal habits.
Sir John has also noticed (with some amazement) that the ladies at the cottage seemed to always be 'employed'. Might this be a subtle comment on a tendency of Willoughby's towards dissipation?
