Are you new?

I agree with what you and everyone else on this thread so far. However it makes me wonder where Elinor got her good sense, when all the influence in the family (mother, sister, stories, etc) are on the side of sensibility. Nature v. nurture - was their father more sensible? Did Elinor have the opportunity to stay with other relatives more level-headed in emotions? Where did Elinor get her sense of propriety where her mother and Marianne disregard it, particularly when affections are fixed? She often seems the lone voice of reason in a sea of sensibility.
