rather than 'correct' in terms of the fashionable or popular opinion of beauty which during that time was in favour of height? In which case Marriane's figure in being tall, makes her more striking, despite not being correct...

But I can see how it really could go either way, so we have the leasure to choose which one we prefer :) I like having this freedom given to my imagination...
