Occasional visits after they married   Written by Barbara (9/14/2009 3:48 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, I'm still struggling..., penned by Anselm
Are you new?

John is about 26 years old (got married almost as soon as he came of age, has a 4-year-old son). When Elinor was born, he would have been about 7 years old. He would have lived with the family at Stanhill and then at Norland, except for when he was at school or elsewhere, from age 7 until whenever he was old enough to be out on his own.

When Marianne says John 'lived with us for years' she is referring to the time before he was married. As a married man, his visits with his wife and son were only occasional.
