Mr Willoughby's finances   Written by Tom P2 (9/14/2009 3:33 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Envy, penned by Robbin
Are you new?

A comparison with the Dashwoods' style of living:

When their income came down to £500/year, they dropped all their horses like hot potatoes. Mr Willoughby, on an estimated £700/year, seems to be maintaining at least four. There's a matched pair for the curricle, which I suppose he's not considering parting with. There's Queen Mab, and there's the brown mare which Colonel Brandon has allegedly refused to buy. (If they're the same mare, I'd like to see what happens if Marianne and Colonel Brandon change their minds at the same time!)

Also, this is a very basic question, but when JA mentions an estate's income, is it gross or nett? Do the running costs of Mr WIlloughby's estate come out of the £700/year?
