Interesting that Elinor's looks satisfy the Classical ideal of regularity, refinement, and correctness, while Marianne's are the Romantic ideal of striking (at the expense of correctness), individual, vibrant, intensely colored, and instantly emotionally engaging. Their looks as well as their temperaments map on to those competing (or mutually critical) artistic movements.
